AKA Responds to Abuse, Drugs Claims
Rapper AKA has denied allegations of drug use and violence following the emergence of a video showing a fight between him and his late fiancee, Anele Tembe.
Uploaded online by a local media outlet on Sunday, 9 May, the video shows AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – breaking down a wooden door to enter a locked room, in which a panic-stricken Tembe is seen sitting on the floor and heard telling him to calm down.
The incident allegedly took place at their Brystanton apartment on 13 March, nearly a month before Tembe fell to her death at the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town.
However, in a statement published to Twitter a day prior to the video’s emergence, AKA denied insinuations that he physically abused Tembe and took drugs during their relationship.
He wrote: “I am fully aware of who the sources engaging media are and what their intention is, which is to influence the SAPS inquest, which the investigating officer has stated numerous times … that I, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, have not been named to be a suspect, but have been nothing but a co-operating witness.”
AKA added: “Every story has two sides, and so does every video, image and message.”
