Are Marumo Gallants Planning to Sack Dan Malesela?
Rumours are swirling regarding the future of Marumo Gallants coach, Dan Malesela.
On Wednesday, 18 December, the Bloemfontein-based club confirmed in a statement that Malesela had been placed on special leave in order to attend to family matters.
The day prior, Gallants announced the appointment of Sundra Govinder, the coach of Casric Stars, as a second assistant coach. He will work alongside first assistant coach, Duncan Lechesa, who is expected to oversee the team until Malesela’s return.
Having lost five games in the 2024/2025 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season so far, Siwelele Sa Marumo currently sits in 12th place with 10 points on the PSL table.
Their poor performance has sparked speculation that the club is preparing to sack Malesela, hence his being placed on special leave.
This coincides with recent reports that the 59-year-old tactician is considering a move to Durban-based outfit, Golden Arrows. In his place, Govinder will allegedly take up the role of manager.
However, Malesela has since denied the rumours, all while emphatically stating: “I’ve got some issues to attend to at home.”
