Spurs Edge United in Chaotic Thriller to Reach Semi-Finals
Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United 4-3 in a breathless Carabao Cup quarter-final on Thursday, 19 December, setting up a semi-final clash with Liverpool.
The match, full of errors and drama, showcased the best and worst of both teams at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.
The hosts dominated early, taking a 3-0 lead, thanks to a brace from Dominic Solanke, and a contribution from Dejan Kulusevski; later, Heung-Min Son’s relentless creativity added a last moment relief. However, defensive blunders nearly cost them.
Fraser Forster’s missteps gifted United two goals, with Bruno Fernandes orchestrating a United comeback that left Spurs fans on edge.
Red Devils’ goalkeeper Altay Bayindir also had a torrid night, conceding a calamitous goal as Son’s corner floated over his head. Despite late pressure and Jonny Evans’ goal, the visitors couldn’t capitalise.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou remained upbeat, praising his team’s character amidst a depleted squad. “I like the whole game,” he said humorously during the post-match interview, before adding: “Are you not entertained? I know the studio is probably having a meltdown over my lack of tactics.”
Tottenham, who haven’t won a trophy since 2008, are now just two games from Wembley. But with their knack for chaos, their semi-final against Liverpool promises to be another unpredictable spectacle.
