Arsenal Sing Praises for Newcomer Declan Rice

The pressure is on for midfielder Declan Rice, who has just joined Arsenal from West Ham United for a club-record fee of £105 million.

“I see him like a lighthouse,” Gunners manager, Mikel Arteta, was quoted as having said via the club’s official website on Monday, 17 July. “He is willing to put the light in others, improve others and make the team better.”

The 24-year-old footballer joined the club on a five-year deal last Saturday, 15 July, and by Monday he was already training next to his teammates on the Washington, D.C. leg of their pre-season tour.

“He’s got the physical qualities that we’ve been missing for a while, that’s why we had to do what we had to do to get him, because he’s really important to us,” Arteta continued, singing the praises for his new signee.

Arsenal seem to be out for blood, as they prepare for the new 2023/2024 season with a slew of pricey signings.

While Rice’s signing falls just short of the British record transfer fee – which is currently held by Chelsea who paid £106.8 million for midfielder Enzo Fernandez in January – the Gunners have already spent over £200 million in the mid-year transfer period.
