Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Tweeps Defend Tyla From MacG
It may be Valentine’s Day today, but there’s certainly no love lost between podcaster MacG and Tyla!
Hot off Tyla’s recent win at the 2024 Grammy Awards, MacG shared his thoughts about the “Water” hitmaker in an episode of “Podcast and Chill” (which premiered on YouTube on Monday, 12 February).
Clearly, he’s not a big fan:
“Shoutout to Tyla’s team,” he is heard saying, sounding impressed at first. “What they are doing with Tyla is amazing. That’s insane! Like, imagine, though, if they were working for someone who is really talented what they could do, you know?”
When co-host Sol Phenduka and others on the technical team tried to defend Tyla, MacG attempted to justify his statement.
“No, no, I’m not like – I’m saying like, imagine [Tyla’s team] working with Msaki, bro, you know what I mean?” he argued.
On one hand, it’s kind of understandable what MacG is trying to say: other talented female artists like Msaki, Sho Madjozi, and Makhadzi need a team that can manage them and market them properly overseas, particularly in the US and the UK.
On the other hand, though, he’s kinda saying that Tyla has no talent to speak of – singing, dancing, nada! – and without her team, she’d be nowhere.
In other words, when it comes to “Truth or Dare” (pun totally intended), MacG is choosing truth all the way.
His remarks didn’t bode well with Tyla’s fans on Twitter/X:
No less than rapper Prince Kaybee stuck up for Tyla and took shots at “consumers” like MacG, winning him supporters in the process:
Tweeps like @Okuhle_CFM, @bhekezinhle and others wanted to know why the rest of Mzansi Twitter/X were acting brand-new, and so they tried to rationalise MacG’s thought process:
In other words, MacG is good at talking nonsense and getting views – and that’s being kind!
So far, Tyla herself hasn’t responded to MacG’s opinions, but we have a feeling she’s too busy living her best life to be bothered by something like this!
