Connecticut Governor Gives 50 Cent His Own Day
50 Cent was probably singing “Go shorty, it’s your day!” on Friday, 11 August, when he was awarded with his very own day in Connecticut, USA.
The 48-year-old “Candy Shop” rapper – real name Curtis James Jackson – was honoured with a certificate marking the day as “50 Cent Day” in the north eastern state.
During the official ceremony held in the state capital of Hartford, governor Ned Lamont handed the prestigious accolade to 50 Cent; the proceedings also coincided with the 50th anniversary of hip-hop music and one of the performances for his “Final Lap” tour.
Taking to Instagram, he uploaded a photo of the proud moment, with the caption: “Today was officially Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson day in Hartford, Connecticut. The energy was so good, it made me remember why I moved to Connecticut.”
50 Cent’s history with the state goes back to when he purchased the 52-room Farmington mansion owned by boxing icon, Mike Tyson, in 2003 for $4.1 million. It was later sold and the proceeds were directed to his G-Unit Foundation charity.
