Formosinho: United Would’ve Been Champions if City Didn’t Cheat
Jose Mourinho’s former Manchester United assistant, Ricardo Formosinho, has accused Manchester City of robbing the Red Devils of the 2017/18 English Premier League title.
Pep Guardiola lifted his first EPL silverware during his second season at the Etihad Stadium in 2018, however, Formosinho believes that United would have emerged champions if the Sky Blues didn’t breach the Financial Fair Play regulations.
Despite Guardiola’s squad finishing with a 19-point gap ahead of the runner ups, Man United, Mourinho’s ex-assistant still holds a grudge against the Citizens.
He said: “We weren’t champions, it’s true, but we won the Europa League, the League Cup, the Super Cup and, in a fight with Man City, who did not fulfil, as proved later, the Financial Fair Play, we were runners-up at a time when, having sporting truth, we would’ve been champions.”
The 64-year old Portuguese tactician also sang the praises of Mourinho, who has now dubbed himself “The Experienced One”, and who is back at the top of the Premier League table with Tottenham Hotspur.
He said: “People may ask why he’s the best. I answer that because he thinks faster and comes up with solutions faster.”
He added: “When talking about the growth of others at the tactical level, he [Mourinho] goes far ahead strategically. He’s different for the better. I’d even say much better.”
