Harry Kane Shines in England 2-0 Victory Over Finland
England captain Harry Kane marked his 100th international cap with two goals in a 2-0 victory over Finland in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday, 10 September.
The match – which took place at Wembley Stadium in London, England and featured a tribute to the late football manager Sven-Goran Eriksson – was dominated by the 31-year-old forward’s relentless performance, showcasing his quality after recent criticism.
Despite a frustrating first half, where Kane had a goal disallowed for offside and was repeatedly denied by Finland goalkeeper, Lukas Hradecky, the striker broke the deadlock at the 57-minute mark with a powerful strike from a clever pass by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Kane added his second goal 19 minutes later, finishing a move set up by substitute Noni Madueke.
Interim manager Lee Carsley secured his second win in two games, with England moving to second place in Group B2, just behind Greece on goal difference. Carsley’s side showed improved control and fluidity, with strong performances from Alexander-Arnold and debutant Angel Gomes in midfield.
Kane’s 68th goal for his country solidifies his position as England’s all-time leading scorer, while his ambition to reach 100 goals for the national team seems less far-fetched. The night belonged to him as he once again proved his worth on the big stage.
