Has AKA Paid Lobola for Nelli Tembe?

AKA has set the rumour mill into overdrive after he recently inquired about the cost of buying livestock.

Nearly a month ago, the “Fela In Versace” rapper proposed to his girlfriend, Nelli Tembe, whom he began dating last year following his split from DJ Zinhle.

Now, tweeps believe that AKA is looking to pay lobola for Tembe after he took to Twitter on Thursday, 18 March, writing: “Quick question. What’s the going rate for a Cow in ZAR [sic] these days … asking for a friend.”

Per African customs, lobola sees the groom paying the bride’s family in cash money or cattle in order to kickstart the process of getting married.

Tweeps were happy to answer, with the going rate apparently ranging between R6 000 and R15 000. Meanwhile, others seemingly got wise to the intention behind the tweet.

One user wrote: “Depends on real cow or cash cow(lobola) the family will set the price if its 4 lobola if ur unlucky [sic].”

Another remarked: “You’re asking for yourself. Thee girl’s fam [sic] are overcharging.”

AKA has neither confirmed nor denied reports of making payments.
