John Mayer Exits Festival Line-Up Following COVID-19 Diagnosis
John Mayer won’t be playing at an upcoming musical festival in Mexico after he received a positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test result.
The 44-year-old “Your Body Is a Wonderland” hitmaker was expected to appear at the “Playing in the Sand” festival in Riviera Cancun this weekend. But on Thursday night, 6 January, the news that he had contracted the virus started circulating around social media.
Dead & Company – the band that he was going to perform with – announced via their official Twitter account: “Just prior to leaving for Mexico, per his physician, [John Mayer] tested positive for COVID-19 and will be unable to perform.”
The band also had more bad news for fans: just a few hours later, they announced that their appearance at the music event for the next two weekends had been cancelled because of “the spiking COVID-19 cases.”
Neither Mayer nor any of his representatives have commented yet on his exit or diagnosis.
