Kaizer Chiefs Lose 0-0 to Royal AM
Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw with Royal AM in their Premier Soccer League (PSL) match-up on Sunday, 18 February.
Upon their arrival at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, it was expected that the Soweto giants would easily prevail over Royal, who ended their last PSL campaign in 11th place.
Throughout the match, Chiefs tried their best to increase their possession of the ball above 54%. Nevertheless, they were still able to maintain dominance over Thwihli Thwahla in the first half of play.
Alas, Chiefs were left frustrated not only by Royal, but also by their own countless missed opportunities to kick the ball into the back of the net.
A yellow card was also given to defender Sifiso Hlanti for a bad foul in the 54th minute, which did little to improve the efforts of the Gauteng team.
Ultimately, both teams struggled to successfully land their shots, and the final score came to 0-0.
As a result of the match, Kaizer Chiefs gained a consolation point and now occupy sixth place on the PSL rankings with 25 points.
As for Royal FM (who also received a point), they’re sitting in 14th place with 19 points – a much lower ranking than in their last campaign, and also dangerously close to relegation.
