Komphela Remains Upbeat After Arrows 7-1 Defeat
Golden Arrows head coach, Steve Komphela, is keeping up a positive front following a 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 6 April.
Playing at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg, the Buccaneers maintained strong possession (56%) of the ball throughout the game, allowing the hosts to topple Arrows with ease.
As a result of this loss, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit are now sitting in ninth place on the Premier Soccer League rankings with 30 points.
In a post-match press conference, Komphela acknowledged that his men wasted opportunities to score. However, he also caught glimpses of good play from them.
“I’ve only been with this team for less than a month,” the 56-year-old commented. “I am working with players whom I’ve worked with before. Others, we started together. I can’t be too hard on them … I thought, with utmost humility, Arrows did play some good football.”
Despite this poor performance – a repeat of which could earn him the ire of Arrows fans – Komphela is still feeling positive about the team’s future.
“It is what it is. We will go back and work with players again. Whether you scream or break bottles or whatever, it won’t help.”
