Leicester City’s Schmeichel Moves to Nice
Kasper Schmeichel has moved across the pond and signed up with Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.
The 35-year-old Danish goalkeeper and team skipper has enjoyed a little over a decade of success with the Foxes – winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Community Shield – but on Wednesday, 3 August, he inked a three-year deal with the French club for “an undisclosed fee.”
During his time captaining Leicester City, Schmeichel featured an impressive 479 appearances over 11 years, the third most in the club’s history.
In a parting club statement, Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha spoke fondly of Schmeichel: “His influence and his leadership on and off the pitch speak volumes about him as a professional, as a football player and as a human being.”
Leicester’s talented keeper’s exit is presumably because of the English side’s tight finances, as they have yet to sign any new players during the current transfer window.
