Liverpool Lose Steam With Newcastle 3-3 Draw

Liverpool’s English Premier League lead was trimmed to seven points after a dramatic 3-3 draw against Newcastle United at St James’ Park in England on Wednesday, 4 December.

Mohamed Salah’s brilliance with his brace nearly sealed victory for the Reds, but a last-minute goal from Magpies centre-back, Fabian Schar, ensured the points were shared.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak opened the scoring in the 35th minute, before Liverpool midfielder, Curtis Jones, equalised shortly after half-time. Anthony Gordon restored the hosts’ lead, but Salah took over in the final 30 minutes, scoring twice to give the visitors a 3-2 advantage.

Despite Salah’s heroics, an error by goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the 90th minute allowed Schar to capitalise and level the game.

The Reds endured frustration throughout with multiple penalty appeals turned down by match official, Andy Madley.

Liverpool boss, Arne Slot, praised Salah: “Just look at the goals, his finish is so clinical. He’s a special player.”

He also shared his thoughts on the 32-year-old Egyptian forward’s future with the club: “It’s difficult for me to predict the long-term future, but the only thing I can expect or predict is that he is in a very good place at the moment.”
