Liverpool Sweep Merseyside Derby 2-0

Liverpool have climbed up to ninth place on the English Premier League rankings following a dominant 2-0 win over Everton on Monday evening, 13 February.

The Merseyside derby saw Liverpool taking the lead in the 36th minute: Mohamed Salah intercepted Everton defender James Tarkowski’s hit off the post and launched the ball into the back of the defenceless net.

Thirteen minutes later, team-mate Cody Gakpo scored his first goal since joining the Reds in December 2022, as he made a tidy tap at the far post.

Coach Jurgen Klopp expressed his delight with his squad’s performance in a post-match interview: “I feel relieved. That’s it, that was the main feeling since the final whistle. Happy with the performance … We needed this game, we needed this performance, now we have it. Our people absolutely deserved it, I loved the atmosphere … It is insane what kind of atmosphere the people create here.”

At 32 points, Liverpool are 19 points behind table leaders Arsenal, who are set to face Manchester City tomorrow night, Wednesday 15 February.
