Newcastle Feeling Frustrated After PSG Match
Newcastle were left grumbling as they walked away from their match against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a last-minute 1-1 stalemate yesterday, Tuesday 28 November.
The draw – which took place at Princes Park Stadium in Paris, France – means that the Magpies are still fighting to secure their spot in the Champions League knockout stages.
Striker Alexander Isak secured the first goal for Newcastle fairly early in the match; his quick footwork carried the ball into the back of the net at the 24th-minute mark.
A fierce battle ensued between the two teams for the remainder of the match. However, by stoppage time, the visitors were quietly confident that they would walk away with a win.
Referee Szymon Marciniak’s decision to grant a penalty kick in the 97th minute turned the match on its head, as striker Kylian Mbappé took the opportunity to convert an equaliser for the hosts a minute later.
Pundits have criticised the decision to allow the penalty; a feeling echoed by Newcastle coach Eddie Howe who said: “I feel it is a poor decision and it’s hugely frustrating for us,” during the post-match press conference.
The Magpies are now sitting in the volatile position of third in Group F; two points behind their PSG rivals.
