Sterling: Winger Seeks Career Reset After Chelsea Exit

Raheem Sterling’s underwhelming tenure at Chelsea concluded on Wednesday, 28 January, after both parties agreed to a mutual contract termination.

Despite arriving as a marquee £47.5m signing in 2022, the 31-year-old was eventually sidelined, spending his final months training alone as part of a “bomb squad” under Enzo Maresca.

The winger, who has 82 England caps and 13 major trophies, has not played competitively since May 2025. While he struggled for rhythm during a subsequent loan at Arsenal, his representatives are reportedly in discussions with seven clubs.

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna remains cautious, stating: “Raheem is very good, but he hasn’t been playing for a long time.” Manna added that Sterling has “significant financial expectations” that may complicate a move.

Closer to home, pundit Jamie O’Hara has urged Tottenham Hotspur to consider a short-term deal, arguing: “I would absolutely take Sterling at Tottenham. I think he’s a good player. He’s better than what we’ve got.”

Now free from the constraints of the transfer window, Sterling is prioritising stability and a permanent move. Whether he stays in the English Premier League or heads abroad, the forward is reportedly fit and eager to prove his top-level career is far from over.
