Strong Stellies Beat Amakhosi 1-0
Kaizer Chiefs notched up another disappointing performance after losing 1-0 to Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday night, 2 April.
Playing on their home ground at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, Gauteng, Chiefs maintained a strong possession (61%) of the ball throughout the game, although their visitors held them at bay with a strong defence strategy, as well as with a co-ordinated display of attacks.
At the stroke of half-time, Stellies broke the goalless deadlock: winger Devin Titus intercepted a pass from teammate Deano van Rooyen to send the ball straight past goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma and into the back of the net.
The second half saw both teams maintaining a similarly exciting pace, with each one attempting to score, only to be prevented by the other. Ultimately, the final score was 1-0 in Stellenbosch’s favour.
As a result, the Carling Knockout champions extended their unbeaten run in the league to 13 games. They sit in second place on the Premier Soccer League table with 38 points.
As for Amakhosi – who have only won one league game in their last seven matches – they occupy seventh place on the rankings with 30 points.
