The 98th Academy Awards: A Night of Historic Triumphs
The 98th Academy Awards, held on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre, will be remembered as a night of cinematic excellence and historic individual breakthroughs.
Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the ceremony was headlined by a fierce showdown between Ryan Coogler’s supernatural thriller Sinners and Paul Thomas Anderson’s sprawling epic One Battle After Another.
While Sinners entered the night with a record-breaking 16 nominations, it was One Battle After Another that ultimately claimed the evening’s highest honour, Best Picture.
Paul Thomas Anderson also secured Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, cementing the film as a modern masterpiece.
However, Sinners did not go home empty-handed, taking home four major awards. Most notably, Michael B. Jordan won his first Oscar for Best Actor, while Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history as the first woman ever to win Best Cinematography.
Other highlights included Jessie Buckley winning Best Actress for her haunting performance in Hamnet and Amy Madigan delivering a touching speech as the night’s first winner for Weapons.
The international stage was led by Norway’s Sentimental Value, while the animated category saw a popular win for the vibrant KPop Demon Hunters.
