Tottenham, Sevilla Agree on Gil-Lamela Swap Deal
Tottenham Hotspur have swapped Erik Lamela for the signature of Sevilla FC’s winger, Bryan Gil.
The English club made the announcement via a statement posted on their website on Monday, 26 July. They explained that 20-year-old Gil joined them on a contract – worth an additional €25 million – lasting until 2026.
They wrote: “He spent last season on loan at Eibar where he made 29 appearances, including 26 starts in La Liga, scoring four goals. He already has 62 appearances in La Liga, Copa del Rey and Europe under his belt, plus another 23 for Sevilla B in Segunda Division B.”
The Spaniard is currently participating at this year’s Tokyo Olympics with the national football team. He will join the Spurs for training when the event concludes.
As for Lamela, the 29-year-old Argentine winger has been playing for the Spurs for eight years: in 257 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 37 goals for the club, as well as helped them progress to three cup finals.
Lamela’s training with Sevilla is also likely to start in due course.
