Tottenham’s Son Receives Warm Welcome on Twitter
Son Heung-min, affectionately known as “Sonny”, is widely seen as a likeable character and a talented Tottenham Hotspur player, and now he is bringing his wholesomeness to Twitter.
In January last year, a fan sent a request to the Lilywhites’ official account, asking that the 29-year-old forward – who also captains the South Korean national team – join the social networking platform, and on Tuesday, 3 May, he finally honoured the wish.
His first tweet was a smiling selfie with the caption: “Hi everyone this is the real me, excited to open my twitter!! [sic]”
Shortly afterwards, he quote-tweeted the eager fan’s plea with “okay [sic]” and a smiling emoji.
Needless to say, Sonny’s fans across the world had a meltdown online, while a multitude of people – including rival club fans – sent well wishes to the English Premier League’s second-leading goalscorer.
One of his over 280 000 followers tweeted: “Hi Sonny, so glad you have Twitter … You’re my favourite person on the planet.”
Sonny already has an Instagram account with over six million followers, and now his adoring fans have another way to interact with their favourite footballer.
