Vinícius Júnior has been crowned FIFA Best Men’s Player 2024 on Tuesday, 17 December, recognising an extraordinary season that saw him shine for both Real Madrid and Brazil.

The 24-year-old forward dazzled with 24 goals in 39 appearances, playing a pivotal role in Real’s 15th European Cup triumph and becoming the youngest player to score in two UEFA Champions League finals.

The Brazilian star reflected on his journey from humble beginnings, crediting his rise to perseverance and determination.

“I’m doing it for many children who think that everything is impossible and who think they can’t get here,” he said during the ceremony in Doha, Qatar. His win also serves as a message against racism, a battle Vinícius has publicly embraced amidst challenges in Spain.

Vinícius narrowly edged out Manchester City’s Rodri, with Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham finishing third. The accolade is also seen as a personal redemption after he missed out on the Ballon d’Or earlier in the year.

Madrid’s success also extended to their manager Carlo Ancelotti, who won the FIFA Best Men’s Coach award. The evening celebrated Vinícius as not just a footballer but a symbol of human resilience, proving that dreams nurtured in the streets can lead to the grandest stages.
